To the family and friends who follow this blog — I just wanted to give you a quick update on how the blog is going and some thoughts I’ve developed since starting it.
First of all, I deeply appreciate all of you who are reading it and sharing in the love I have for my mom. I love reading the comments that some of you write each week, as well as the texts and emails some of you send after reading a post. One thing that’s been especially cool to witness is some of my friends (who haven’t met my mom) telling me that they’re getting to learn about how amazing and beautiful my mama is.
In writing these posts for the last several months, I’ve found myself more so desiring to write about topics that are deeply meaningful to me, and those tend to be topics that relate more to my mom’s character or personal traits. In line with this, I’ve found that I haven’t had too much desire to contribute to the “Food” category of the blog. I initially created this as part of Lessons from Anju because I felt (and still feel) that my mom’s cooking always represented her love for my family, but I’ve since realized I don’t feel especially connected to creating posts about recipes. (In part this is because food posts also require a good amount of photography, something that I’m not passionate about, as opposed to writing.) Instead, I feel I can share her love for this family and my love for her in other ways that I feel a greater sense of connection to.
As I mentioned in my original post, this blog is like a personal journal for me that I’ve decided to share with you, so it’s going to be something that evolves in line with my emotions and desires over time.
So for now, you probably won’t be seeing many food-related posts, though I may revisit these down the line. Just wanted to update on this in case any of you were wondering why you weren’t seeing these kinds of posts, beyond the one on banana bread I wrote a few months ago.
It’s been very special for me to create this blog and I look forward to continuing with it for however long feels right. Though my posts have become more infrequent, in line with my starting and settling into a new job as well as trying to get other aspects of my life more on track, I continue to experience overwhelming levels of love and emotion for and around my mom that I know will never cease.
I’ll be sharing a proper post in the next several hours, so look out for that!
Thank you for all of your support and love-
Mika
